With all the new shows coming on and my friend having left me his import PS2 along with his copy of ACE 3 The Final, I’ve been in the middle of a media overload. Macross Frontier, new Geass, Keitai Sousakan 7…Brand New Doctor Who…it’s all too much. But then, while recovering, I found out the following news via Scifi Japan and my week has suddenly become legendary: Space Magazine Uchusen is coming back!!
Released on April 1, 2008, the new Uchusen Magazine is a quarterly publication in a similar format as its predecessor. The first issue will continue the numbering of the original and begin with issue number 120. The 132-page periodical will go for 1,800 yen and the first issue includes a supplemental 42-page 2008 Yearbook insert.
In an attempt to recapture the spirit of Uchusen, Hobby Japan brings back three of the original staffers, Shinohara Mamoru, Keita Amemiya and Kobayashi. The magazine will contain all the requisite film and television coverage, but will also return to serializations and incorporate a fan club, which will promote fan-involvement in the magazine’s content.
And the best bit about this: If I’m reading this right, Keita Amemiya has some details about possible new Garo stuff in his column. Getting a copy…now. In the meantime, this week’s Friday ACE.
-Kirinji’s 10th Anniversary album, “7 -seven-“, came out last month and nobody told me!
Kirinji is one of my favorite J-Music duos of all time. If there was ever a time to get started on their music, now would be it. Go and buy “7 -seven-” now!
-A clip from the forthcoming Machine Girl has found its way online via Bloody-Disgusting.com. Word of warning: This is not for the faint of heart, weak of stomach, and most definitely NSFW!
Like that? Then go to Amazon and pre-order your copy before it hits stores June 3rd!
-So apparently, people want to turn the animated short film, Codehunters, into a live action film. Before you read anything else, you must see this for yourself.
Now answer me, why the hell does there need to be a live action version of this? It’s like giving the Smurfs the Casshern treatment. Completely unnecessary! Sure you’ve got the backing of the original director but this has all the potential to go sour. If you must make this live, please don’t suck. I beg of you….
-Japanator posted this last week but I forgot to include it: Here’s a good chunk of the cast of Gurren-Lagann doing a live dub at an event
-Swedish furniture giant IKEA has embraced the Japanese concept of “Making Things That Aren’t Really Needed/Useful” by decking out the Kobe Portliner Monorail in Kobe, Japan in all manner of things…um…well…see for yourself.
Check out more pics on Pink Tentacle. If you’re in Japan, you can check this out for yourself until May 6th when it goes back to normal. Sure I won’t be able to go personally but that’s not going to stop me from getting uber rich JUST to buy my own train and do the same thing.
-Behold, (one of) the greatest music video(s) ever. Denki Groove’s “Shounen Young”
-Providence Anime Conference, the first ever 21+ anime convention is taking registration right now. From the events announced this far, it’s looking to possibly become the Game Developer’s Conference of the anime fandom. This of course is nice for a change because that means that nothing like this will be happening…
That’s right, they threw a tampon off a balcony. And taped it. Yeah. Nice way to get banned.
-And finally, I got my hands on a copy of Lupin III: Green VS Red. Let’s just say that this clip is ten times more entertaining than said OVA.
TANGENT OF THE WEEK:
Yeah, this picture from the set of the live-action Dragon Ball movie really speaks for itself, doesn’t it?
Honorable Mention:
I mentioned this in another entry but you people out there can stop Uwe Boll!
-Madhouse To Produce Opening Animation for Otakon 08-Wait, wha?! (ANN)
-Studio 4C’s Genius Party Beyond Trailer (Twitch)
-One More Reason Not To Eat At McDonalds: Somebody Could Be Making Porn (Japanator)
-Go Buy Red Baron
That’s it for this week. And now, a custom level of Super Mario World set to JAM Project’s GONG.
