I Don’t Wanna Die….AT LAST!
May 30, 2008Chogokin RAAAAGE!
May 30, 2008From Yomimuri Online:

“I’m troubled because my husband’s a nerd.
I never knew before we got married, but he collects all these worthless dolls. ‘Chougoukin robots’ or something, he calls them.
Apparently he’s been gathering them since he was a kid, and had four big cardboard boxes full of them.
Anyway they were disgusting so I threw them away while he was at work. When he came back we had a fight.
Fighting over toys! What a brat!
What should I do to make him repent?
Advice, please.”
This has been posted on /m/ and various blogs with the majority of the comments being along the lines of “Stupid whore” and “Bitch”. Yes you could fault the guy for marrying her in the first place but think about it; She claimed that she didn’t know about his being a nerd or about his collection. Wouldn’t that be one of the things that would come up BEFORE you said your vows?
Maybe the guy tried to hold back the info so that he could marry her in the first place but no matter what way you spin it, this is a pretty messed up situation. What do you guys think?
To the poor husband out there: Sorry to hear about your collection, dump that bitch, and go for a night on the town in Akiba.

FRIDAY ACE: “Recap Episode” Edition - Week of 05/18/08
May 24, 2008
Yes, this isn’t Friday, nor is this a typical ACE entry. However, with the convention grind and Otaku USA deadlines having been finally met, I think I can finally sit down and do what I’d like to call the Recap Episode :P
Rave Night Blues
May 21, 2008In yet another R5 The Live installment, I managed to compile whatever rave footage I got at Anime Central into yet another artsy looking clip. Please enjoy:
Hyper ZA WARUDO!
May 20, 2008Clips from ACen are slowly finding their way online as I recover. Aside from the new R5 The Live segment, there are also a few clips from Tokusatsu Hell on Youtube.
And no I will not be uploading the Michael Jackson/JAKQ parody clip. I don’t want my ass tackled by Copyright hounds.

Things I Learned at Anime Central 2008
-If you show up during an even numbered year, anything that can go wrong WILL go wrong.
-Always go to the Dealer’s Room BEFORE somebody buys up the only Dangaioh Revoltech in the building.
-If you’re holding a panel, do not include critical subject matter details in an uber-long title. Even a Dr. Strangelove reference couldn’t save the R5 Central panel as multiple people walked by having no clue what the hell was going on.
-On that note, If you’re coming into a panel that is just wrapping up; SHUT THE F*CK UP AND LET THEM FINISH!
-Never go to the ADV booth unless you really want to be depressed. Think it didn’t help having a big Gurren Brigade staring them down via the booth across from them either.
-Don’t bother trying to find any titles that were made before 1991 in the ACen Dealer’s Room. No matter how hard you try, you will not find a copy of Bubblegum Crisis to save your life.
-If the crazed lead singer of an equally crazy rock band spontaneously stage jumps during Opening Ceremonies, make a break for it. Lest you want a broken iPod.
-If a guy comes up to you and directly asks if whether or not there are some hot girls waiting to be f*cked at 3 AM, don’t say anything to him. He’s most likely somebody that will get arrested.
-Finally, no matter how bad you think your panel may have gone, somebody will always manage to get something out of it….
From Japanator:
…Not only do I like shonen, mecha, and overall violent shows, but I also have a craving for tokusatsu. Though unlike the other genres, I am a total newbie at it. So in order to get up to speed I decided to take part in the Tokusatsu Taisen panel. Things didn’t turn out as planned with that panel and it basically turned into a forum for questions and answers.
Even though most of the things discussed went directly over my head, I still ended up learning a lot about the genre I never knew existed. Such as Hideaki Anno, the director of Neon Genesis had taken part as an Ultra Man like clone for Gainax, before it was Gainax. Now I know why he was so depressed later in his life.
Videos and junk will be up later when I’ve fully recovered.
MOETE IKE!!!!
May 7, 2008So somebody out there apparently hates me -_-

Aside from sitting through Baldr Force EXE Resolution (my thoughts of which will be revealed in the next issue of Otaku USA), I was greeted with the grim news that a new Nico Nico Douga had revealed itself last month. This of course coming RIGHT when I finally felt comfortable enough with the last one to be be daring enough to attempt a rendition of this at the forthcoming R5 Central panel at Anime Central.
Yes, that’s right. Me singing live. This’ll be one for the record books.
Anywho, this new rendition of the Nico Nico Medley, now marked 4th in the series (The Musical Suite was the second in the series, followed by “Nico Nico Monogatari” which I will never sing solo in this lifetime), is entitled “Nico Nico Douga 4.0 Ryuusei-Gun” or “Nico Nico Douga Meteor Swarm”. This one containing over 40 songs and running 13 minutes includes new songs from Code Geass, Bamboo Blade, and everybody’s favorite Caramelldansen among others. And of course, me being the glutton for punishment that I am, I have decided to take it upon myself to get this one down as well. If I feel up to it, I may try this one at ACen as well :P
Now I know what some of you are saying; “Mike, you need to get laid and a life while you’re at it you don’t need to do this!” “Back out while you can!!” and the like. Thing is, dear readers, I can’t back down. I’ve already gotten this far! For the pride of American Fandom…wait no, I can’t stand half of it most of the time-FOR THE PRIDE OF MY COUNTRY! For the sake of my readers and listeners who want to hear me make a total vocal ass out of myself, I must attempt this!
Yeah, I know I still need to do that Definitive English Version of the last medley, that will happen too…but this demon must be conquered first! Wish me luck!
Candy Coated Dreaming: Now Online
May 3, 2008My first cross-over web article for Otaku USA is now up and running. Entitled “Miss You”, it’s a bit of an opinion piece on the way things are going right now with Tokusatsu these days. Word of warning though as I tend to be dangerously opinionated. Click the banner to check it out.
Also, check out the other parts of “Issue Six: The Expanded Edition” including Daryl Surat proclaiming Kageyama Hironobu’s awesomeness from the highest mountain and Paul Chapman’s review of Killer. (..um…y’know).
The one thing that I really like about the whole thing - JAKQ being used as my feature’s main page banner.
Between this, Iron Man, recording interviews, and this week’s Golgo 13, this has been the Best Weekend Ever.
FRIDAY ACE LITE: “Beatbox Hero” Edition
May 3, 2008
Sadly no ACE this week due to recording interviews for R5 and OUSA deadlines. In its place, I offer the following: Masi Oka from Heroes beatboxing.
