WTF at 100 WPM

July 7, 2008 by kimiden

Couple of random musings:

-This has been a depressing week in terms of my viewing schedule. Doctor Who wrapped up on a down note and Code Geass R2′s been getting all the more crazy with a major character death this past week. At least with Geass, I got a shiny new opening theme to make up for it:

Some idiot tried saying that this song, done by FLOW, was better suited for Bleach. Right. >_>

-We’re at that time of the year again folks. It’s the annual “Series That We Thought Would Be Cool Turns To Complete Crap” Turnaround.

I’m one episode away from dropping Kamen Rider Kiva entirely as the show fell into the exact same trap that I knew would happen from Day 1 if left unchecked; the Time Jumps shafting out the 2008 storyline and leaving it barely fleshed out and repetitive. I’ll watch the movie, if only to see Otoya as IXA fighting alongside Wataru as confirmed in the photo that spread out online this week.

-What the hell is wrong with the frigging internet?

The above video for the Bag Raiders song, “Fun Punch” features stuntwork from BOS-Stunts, based out of Australia. BOS is aiming to make a TV series for the characters you’ve just seen but are looking for sponsors, what better way to get the word out than by appearing in a music video, right?

However, the idiots of the internet are bashing the video, SOLELY because “It’s like Power Rangers” and, according to VH1 MTV everybody’s close-minded older sibling, “Power Rangers Is Gay”. What the fuck?! Yes I know people latch onto the first instance of it that they ever saw but goddamnit people, open your eyes and don’t dismiss it because it reminds you of something.

-Speaking of bitching, everybody’s been whining about the dub for Gurren Lagann….

For those that were there when this was screened at AX, you are allowed an opinion…BUT if you’re just viewing this on the web; You can barely hear the english voices due to the quality of the recording so why would you bitch about something you haven’t full heard yet?

Somebody on /m/ put it best:

…..I don’t know what the fuck you guys are whining about, the dub voices are for the most part perfect for the characters’ personalities (their ACTUAL personalities, not the personalities you give them for your shitty fanfics). Kamina and Kittan are wacky yet inspirational bastards, not stone-cold badasses, Simon’s voice conveys his wussiness perfectly, and you’re just being a contrary asshole if you can find ANYTHING to complain about in Leeron or Nia’s voices. Yoko’s voice sucks, but who gives a fuck about her?

Then again, you guys have been waiting so long to complain about the G-L dub that I doubt you’d let facts get in the way of your waaaaaahmbulances, as evidenced by the fact that you’re basing your criticisms off a shitty-quality vid like that.

Okay, hopefully this weekend won’t prove to be as messed up as this past one and I can refrain from wanting to put my head through a brick wall. Take care all.

YOU CAN FLY! HEY! WE CAN FLY! HEY!

FRIDAY ACE: “Where The Hell Is It?!” Edition

June 27, 2008 by kimiden

Okay, I apologize. No Friday ACE for the next two weeks due to the fact that I’m on vacation during that time. While I’m gone, here’s a kickass trailer for an indie Tokusatsu flick entitled simply, G.

God I want to get my hands on this..

FRIDAY ACE: “Prophetic BlackJack” Edition - Week of 06/15/08

June 20, 2008 by kimiden

You know, Kutabare! Nostradamus remains to be the one Lupin III film that I keep wanting to see but never get the chance to. It also is the most convenient one at the moment as the trailer for Prophecies of Nostradamus, the 1970’s Toho Sci-Fi flick that’s apparently banned in Japan isn’t on Youtube, leaving me unable to make a clever intro to the titular bit of interesting news for this week:

Osamu Tezuka predicted an earthquake.

According to Canned Dogs, northeastern Japan got hit with a 6.9 earthquake on Tuesday at approximately 8:45am. However, a 2ch user pointed out that said earthquake was actually mentioned in Volume 17, page 104 of Tezuka Osamu’s manga, BlackJack, right down to the location. The only thing that was off was the magnitude (the page said it was 7.5).

Now if that isn’t creepy, I don’t know what is. Well actually I do know and it’ll be at the end of this entry. So here we go with this week’s ACE. Unless Tezuka says that I die while typing it.

FRIDAY ACE: “Call Out Of The Trailer Montage” Edition - Week of 06/08/08

June 13, 2008 by kimiden

That does it.

Soulja Boy, listen up. I have had it up to here with the damage your song has done to the world. (If you don’t believe me, valiant readers, look up Japanese Soulja Boy on Youtube. It gets worse.) Everywhere I look, it’s same damn dance over and over again and it’s just ruining everything! The chaos must stop and the only way justice will be served is if I challenge you…to a Duel!

Remember that video? (fast forward to the 2:32 mark) I know you think you are something The Gundam King because of your exploits, therefore if de-throning you will stop the infection then so be it! That’s right: I, Mike Dent, Great Sage-Equal of Heaven, do hear by challenge Soulja Boy to three rounds of Gundam: Bonds of the Battlefield, the very game he claimed to be the King of. Should I win, it means that you can never perform that song in any form ever again! Bring it….IF YOU DARE!!!

…Yeah I’m sure he won’t take me up on it. If all else fails, I can try challenging Rain to a dance off…

Anyway, here’s Friday ACE. Not much this week–One big news bit, a slew of trailers, and Fist of the North Star. That’s all you really need.

Memory’s in the pictures…

June 11, 2008 by kimiden

Yeah. That’s why cons don’t allow signs.

Going through some old pics on my recently rediscovered Photobucket account. God it brings back memories. For example, here’s ally in arms Card Captor Will circa 2004 during my “Take a Pic At One Of The Most Inopportune Moments” phase in my photographic career…

Yeah, I got a lot of interesting moments that way…

Will: So glad [that] didn’t take off…
Me: What, the phase or the career?

Awww, here’s Ron “Soulcrash” Ladao, also circa 2004….

Some things never change. Now if only I can find the corresponding Reactor 05 pic.

Not so fun, being twisted….

June 9, 2008 by kimiden

Most of you guys probably don’t know this but there’s a possibility I may living in Japan for a year, to try it out before I go to college out there. Among the list of goals I had in mind, one was to make a trailer for the Akiba Maid Cafe Massacre short that I made last year for R5 Central’s Halloween episode.

I even came up with a rough outline of the story and everything, every person I told the story to thought it was twisted and potentially awesome. Now here we are at Monday and suddenly, the idea isn’t as fun anymore. Namely because there WAS an actual Akihabara massacre yesterday.

From Japan Probe:

A man went on a stabbing spree on Sunday in central Tokyo, injuring at least 14 people with about five of them left unconscious, a fire department official said.

The man was subdued after stabbing bystanders near the bustling train station of Akihabara, an area known for electronics stores and is a haven for fans of video-games and comic-book culture.

At least 14 people including a police officer were injured, the fire department official said.

“About five of them are unconscious,” he said.

The man was driving a truck that swerved into pedestrians before he got out and began stabbing people at random, according to media reports.

I don’t think I could say anything that hasn’t already been said at this point. It’s really chilling when you learn more about it too, especially with the fact that he was posting on a BBS in the time leading up it..

This really sucks, for both the families and friends of the victims and Akiba itself. The latter because from what I’ve been hearing, the police have really been cracking down on street performers and the like. What makes this worse is the fact that the media are DRAMATICALLY playing up the fact that he liked anime/manga/video games….

The question remains now; Will the government decide to totally crack down on Akihabara and if so, where will the otaku flock to now?

The really messed up bit though: The people laughing during the news coverage

Yep, there were apparently multiple people making faces and such during the coverage as if it was their chance to get on TV. It’s rather shameless and really a stupid thing to do following the aftermath of a tragedy like this. Looks like I’m not alone in thinking this though because as I type, angry users on 2channel are trying to uncover the identities of the people in question….

I’m actually cheering 2ch on. As I told a friend of mine, it’s like somebody trying to moon through the window of the newsroom during the 9/11 coverage–As cool as you think you are, you’re just making yourself look like a shameless moron. Sure they may not have known but that’s just ridiculous regardless.

That’s…pretty much all I have to say. I had to fight off the elements this weekend to prevent my basement from being flooded alongside my dad. Now I find myself unable to say how bad of a time it was when stuff like this was going down.

Take it easy folks. Be safe.
