I recently got sucked into the madness that is Fullmetal Alchemist. Friend of mine got me the first volume of the manga for my birthday and I’ve been hooked ever since. Didn’t get a chance to see the first TV series but with the emergence of FMA: Brotherhood, I figured why not, right?
The slick deal with this series is that Funimation is uploading episodes of the series, uncut and with subs, on their website. Best part? For free. Downside? It’s a few days after the Japanese broadcast but who cares right? It’s the closest thing to simulcast and it rocks hard.
…..And the fandom STILL found a way to bitch about it.
Even in spite of the sweet deal laid out in front of them, fans are STILL subbing the series. What’s worse is the laughable excuses said groups give to sub the series anyways. My favorite one comes from a group called Shinsen-Subs who reportedly said something along the lines of:
We support the US release…..B-BUT THE PEOPLE OUTSIDE OF THE STATES CAN’T SEE THE FUNIMATION STREAM! YEAH! WE’RE GOING TO SUB IT FOR THEM!!
To quote my friend who lives outside of the states:
Ummm…I can see the streams in the UK….So fuck Shinsen
Thankfully, Funimation is now issuing cease-and-desist orders to a majority of the fansub groups out there. Already two groups are now in the dust but more of them are STILL popping up. As annoying as the whole situation already is, this statement took the cake:
Sadly we lose some of the best fansub groups in the FMA: Brotherhood. Right now I dont know about Eclipse or the other fansubs groups about this subject of Funanimation treating them to drop the series.
As you know FMA: Brotherhood is being subbed by many, and I think every week a new comes out. Now we got guys like The Alchemists doing the subs and many others.
So hang in there, we probably wont lose our dear FMA wekly fix. Please continue to support the fansub groups, specially the ones who dont sucumb to big corporations.
……Going to be calm. Going to be calm. Going to be-
*cue heavy metal music* FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, GET OVER YOURSELVES! STOP BEING A BUNCH OF FUCKING IDIOTS AND SUPPORT THE FUCKING SHOW THAT YOU LOVE ALREADY! THIS FUCKING TEENAGE REBELLION BULLSHIT IS GETTING OLD REALLY FAST AND ALL IT’S DOING IS MAKING YOU LOOK LIKE A FRESH BATCH OF MORONIC DOUCHEBAGS! THE COMPANIES ARE FINALLY LISTENING TO YOU AND ALL YOU DO IS SHIT IN THEIR FACE?! FUCKYOUFUCKYOUFUCKYOOOOOOOOOOU!
*tries to catch breath* And now, this week’s Friday ACE.
-To start off, a contender for the reason behind the title of this week’s Friday ACE: Some columnist from IGN whom I’ve never heard of until today posted an article that claims if you like anime, you’re a sexual deviant. While this isn’t the first time somebody has made this claim, just look at the way this reads.
….some will say that anime is an art form. Alright, I’ll give you that one. Assuming that your taste in art is limited to the work of talentless hacks sitting around wacking the weenie while sketching out images of girls with massive boobage….
In the words of one WildArmsHeero, this is the most internet thing I’ve ever read. Why? Because this isn’t the first time that somebody’s made this argument and looked like an ass in the process. Seriously, I love the way this author makes a claim, then runs away behind the shields of sarcasm and failed attempts at humor in an effort to seem cool….even though she has no real points or base at all whatsoever. It’s like reading a professional internet troll attempt as the whole thing just reeks of an attention grabber. To that end, I regret even mentioning it, because it ensures one more hit for the site and a paycheck for her for a mediocre job well done.
Congratulations on ensuring that the seven people that read your column and actually care remain the only people that do so. :P
-To lighten the mood a bit, Jinro promotes “Nominication” (Drink+Communication)
–Also to that end, a photo of Brad Pitt filming another commercial for Softbank:
The full commercial will be out soon. Maybe some gracious soul will up it on Youtube.
–The first episode of Cobra THE ANIMATION: Time Drive is out!
In this two-parter, we get to see how Cobra and his partner, Lady first met. The prospect of seeing Cobra in his pre-surgery days makes my inner fanboy squee in delight. Mostly because of the flashback but also because this means that we’re one step closer to the brand-spanking new Cobra TV series, Rokunin no Yuushi. If I remember right, Osamu Dezaki, director of the last Cobra TV (absent from Time Drive and The Psychogun because of his commitment to *shudders* Ultraviolet: Code 044…) will be coming back for this one as well. Cannot frigging wait!
–The first trailer has emerged for the documentary How Bruce Lee Changed the World:
From Kung-Fu Cinema:
This documentary special will air on The History Channel in the United States and will also be shown internationally to mark the 35th anniversary of his passing…..
This groundbreaking documentary is taking a completely new approach to Bruce Lee’s legacy. More than just a biography, this film will explore Lees global impact to see how he has influenced popular culture in fitness, cinema, music, sport, design, fashion, philosophy and other realms. Filmed in High Definition, this cinematic journey will travel across the United States and Asia, taking the Lee family on a trip back to Bruces roots in Hong Kong and China. In addition we have been granted unique access to family archive, home movies and all material owned by the Bruce Lee Foundation.
We have been interviewing actors, moviemakers, athletes, musicians, artists, designers and others who were influenced by Bruces work. Among those who have already taped or agreed to tape an interview are John Woo, Jackie Chan, LL Cool J, Jet Li, Michelle Yeoh, Brett Ratner, Eddie Griffin, RZA from the Wu Tang Clan, Guy Ritchie, Stan Lee, The Gorillaz, Michael Bay, Ang Lee, UFC’s Randy Couture, UFC President Dana White and Parkour founder Sebastian Foucan.
Truly cannot wait ^_^
–Remember Nunchaku Badminton guy from awhile back? He’s at it again…
–Are you digging the new anime series Basquash? Don’t mind watching your stuff raw? Well good news because for Golden Week, Kadokawa Anime has uploaded the first two episodes on Youtube. Both are uncut and in high quality….and without subs.
HOWEVER! To those out there that haven’t had the chance to check this show out, now’s your chance! Who knows? Maybe the increased US attention could mean the series getting the Haruhi-chan treatment w/ fully subbed episodes?
Yeah, I know, I’m too optimistic for my own good….
-And last but not least, JAM Project is worth OKKUSENMAN! OKKUSENMAN!
TANGENT OF THE WEEK:
(Warning as this bit is very old news. However, it’s an equally disturbing.)
Bonnie & Clyde. It’s an American cinematic classic. It’s also a really cute Hikaru Utada song from her first album. Yeah, it’s being remade into a film slated for release this year starring Hillary Duff. Now what makes this Tangent-worthy? It’s the comments of Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway.
”Couldn’t they at least cast a real actress?”
