Times are tough, valiant readers. But you know what gets me through it? HOT BLOODED PASSION!
And now, Friday ACE!
-It seems like we’re seeing the start of a real life Super Robot War: First off, work on the Tetsujin 28 statue in Kobe is nearing completion!
This Monday, the head of the 60-foot tall Tetsujin 28 statue in Kobe, Japan was attached. Things are nearing the homestretch for the project which started earlier this year, with a completion ceremony slated for October 4th! Unfortunately, in the meanwhile, the Gundam statue in Tokyo is currently being disassembled…..
Many a Gundam fan wish that the statue parts were being shipped to them (pr that this is just part of a reenactment of A Baoa Qu) but there’s no word where or when this Gundam will stand again. South Korea doesn’t seem to care about this as apparently, they’ll soon be home to an even bigger robot statue! Three guesses who it’s going to be of. That’s right, Taekwon V!
Now to be fair, this project was started years ago, without the knowledge of Japan’s rise in robot statues. But like all good beefs, the blogosphere has spun this as a rising challenger. The statue will be the centerpiece for the forthcoming Robot Land, a 600-million dollar infused theme park in Incheon that will revolve around all things robotic. The Powers That Be behind this project promise that Taekwon V will be 364 feet tall, that’s well above Tetsujin and Gundam in Japan but also on par with the frigging Statue of Liberty!
–Optimus Prime’s darkest hour….
-With Tokyo Game Show only two weeks away, anticipation is building for the reveal of the new characters for Tatsunoko VS Capcom’s American incarnation. An impatient fan went into the official site’s source code in the meantime and discovered possible hints at the new five characters that would be included in the States. However, out of the five, there’s only one I really give a damn about: TEKKAMAN BLADE!
As the original Tekkaman is in the game, one would thing that this is just a palate-swap on par with Ryu and Ken. From what we’ve been hearing though, Blade will be a lot faster than his predecessor, armed with his custom twin-shoulder Voltekka and his signature Crush Intrude. Unfortunately, still no word on when the game will be released…..

-It’s the end of the world guys! Rubberduckzilla has been sighted in Osaka!!
The prosaically named Suito Osaka Rubber Duck Project, designed by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, has seen a 9.5m tall by 11m long rubber duck statue floated on the city’s waterways, for no particular reason.
Hah! Yeah, right! We know better than to believe THAT cover up! Break out the Maser Tanks, boys! It’s time for a Chinese Christmas Dinner!
-Bad news folks. According to Collider.com, the live-action Akira adaptation is still alive.
According to my source, screenwriters Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, guys whose work I like, are about to turn in their version of an “Akira” movie and the reason why the project has been so quiet is they’ve been hard at work trying to get the script right.
For those that aren’t familiar with their work, they wrote the amazing adaptation of “Children of Men” and they’re also credited with “Iron Man” (although a lot of that movie was written on the set). But my point still stands that I like their work and I’m happy they’re taking a crack at it.
Also, while I couldn’t get a lot of info about what changes are being made from the anime to make the feature film work, I did confirm the story is still set in post-apocalyptic Manhattan in the near future. I also confirmed the famous motorcycle is definitely a part of the film, but that bit of info shouldn’t surprise anyone.
From what I could gather, the movie is still a priority for the studio, and if the script meets with approval from key people, the movie could go into production in 2010 with a release date in 2011. Also, this isn’t going to be some mid-range budget movie. If the film goes into production, it’s going to be one of those BIG event movies….

TANGENT OF THE WEEK:
This deserves some special recognition over how frigging ridiculous this is. According to Japan Probe, Miku Natsume, a female TV announcer was recently forced to resign. Why? Because a tabloid posted a picture of her, holding a box of condoms.
The implication that she was having sex, and even enjoying it, has proved fatal for her career and it has now been announced she will be leaving the broadcaster in December…..When she was advised she could no longer stay on her main show, a TV insider says that she tearfully begged for a second chance. She was told, however, that her image had suffered irrevocably with housewives who are regarded as a key part of the audience…..
….So let me get this straight, because she was implicated in enjoying sex, she gets the boot? What the hell, Japan? Seriously, what the hell?
